Staff from the DynamicHealth physiotherapy service at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust embraced challenges in aid of Workout at Work 2017.
Teams based at six sites in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough took different approaches to promote physical and mental well-being in the work environment, which is the ethos behind the theme set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Sarah Saul, Service Manager DynamicHealth said: “We are delighted to be involved in Workout at Work 2017 to promote workplace wellbeing, the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity. We’ve held six events this year, one in each base, making it our most successful year yet; thank you for everyone who took part.”
From dancing in the hospital corridors and Zumba in the park to the slightly competitive school sports day and partnership targets (including a collective plank hold for nearly two hours!); everyone embraced the theme with enthusiasm.
Steph Dear, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist based at Brookfields in Cambridge planned the event to support the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Workout at Work 2017. She said: “It was a great event; we had three teams allocated to different timeslots to contribute towards our team totals. Everyone was encouraged to do as much or as little as they were able to. I’d like to say absolutely well done to every single one of us; we absolutely SMASHED our targets!”
Brenda Gannon, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Huntingdon said: “It went well.We had a good laugh and most importantly we all joined in. We even had other staff based on site wanting to join in as we did the conga down hospital corridors. Not to mention a round of applause from customers in the coffee shop.”
Raj Thirunageswaram, MSK Physiotherapist and Operational Team Lead in Peterborough said: “As physiotherapists we are encouraging people to spread the word about the benefits of getting active at work. This could be as simple as tips on building activity into the working day. Or you could help workplace teams devise fitness targets or lead an outdoor exercises session. "The W@W program for this year was very successful, so we thought we would plan something similar next year.”
Matt Cole, Rehabilitation instructor in Ely said: “We had an excellent turn out from staff from different services all over the hospital. They competed against the clock (and each other) in egg and spoon and three legged races.”
